My Story

My Story

If you’re here, my story will sound familiar.

I feel very vulnerable telling it, but I want you to know you are not alone.

I experienced so much illness in my life, suffered from so many different kinds of serious conditions, I became hopeless.  I lost a sense of “the real me” and wondered if I’d ever find myself and my health again.

My frustration with incorrect diagnoses, immune system weakening medicines, and constantly falling into cycles of illness, lead me to seek out my own answers and a new approach to my health.

I like to say Functional Medicine found me and changed my life forever.  I’ve spent the last 15 years of my life engrossed in this; studying published medical journals, attending symposiums, working on diplomates and seeking out the hidden solutions to many health concerns. I work to offer much more than blanket alternative care. I want answers and I want to be able to help you regain control of your health!

You may recognize yourself in many of my experiences.

I grew up on a diet high in refined sugar and suffered from constant ear and sinus infections. Frequent rounds of antibiotics lead to chronic constipation by the time I was a teenager. Nothing seemed to help. One time, in a last-ditch effort, my parents drove me two hours away to an Amish iridologist who worked from his kitchen. (I was immediately intrigued!) He gave me a bottle of powdered herbs which helped me for a while, but they never truly healed me. They didn’t get to the root of my illness as I would later discover through my studies and unfortunately, many other health conditions.

Life continued to give me plenty of new opportunities to learn what worked for my body and what didn’t:

  • Systemic yeast built up in my system due to several factors. Childhood diet, environmental conditions, etc.
  • Once, after my wood stove was serviced incorrectly, I came down with carbon monoxide poisoning and suffered extensively, further weakening my immune system.
  • A tick bit me in my own backyard, and after taking a prophylactic dose of doxycycline to avoid Lyme disease, my skin erupted in inflamed patches all over my forehead.

In each of my circumstances, I did my own research, educated myself about my condition, and took the steps I needed to regain control of my health. I wouldn’t let these conditions beat me, and I wouldn’t let a doctor’s diagnosis like “IBS” be the end of my story. (I called BS on that one!)

Have you ever been told there is no cure for what you have, or that it’s all “in your head”? So have I.

In addition to all of the health obstacles above, I have a rare neurological condition called (MdDS) that is triggered by boats. Despite being on solid ground after disembarking, I continue to have the sickening sensation of bobbing up and down and being thrashed around as if I’m on high seas. Not just for a couple of days. More like months and even up to a year.

Several doctors told me it was all in my head.

Finally, a neurologist at John Hopkins Hospital diagnosed this condition and said there was no cure. He wrote me a prescription for Valium, and said, “Good luck”.

Perhaps you can guess by now that I refused to accept this life-sentence.

I am in remission from MdDS and no longer suffer from it. I have a strong immune system and more energy I’ve ever had. In fact, I’m in the best health of my life thanks to Functional Medicine, and some amazing resources. I have been able to put an end to these cycles of illness.

I want this for you too.

I believe life brought me all these challenges not only to make me a stronger person, but also a better doctor and understand first-hand what you’re going through. It is my mission to help you experience vibrant health again whether you’re suffering from a chronic illness or simply want to optimize your current level of wellness. I will fight for your health with the same persistence and dedication I fought for my own.

I’m grateful for the privilege of supporting you in your journey back to “the real you”.

Thank you for reading my story.

I’m ready to hear yours.

Warmly,

Dr. Wolfe.
